How to save energy with your thermostat

On the programmable thermostat you can actually set it so that it controls the temperature in your absence. The first thing you want to do is you want to make sure you disconnect all the power. You usually have a light switch next to the furnace in the attic somewhere. Once the power is off, you can take off the face plate. In this case there's three screws that we need to remove, so set that off to the side.

Now what you want to do is one wire off of at a time. You want to label them before you take them off of the old thermostat, because in some homes you have different color coding and they're not always red, white, yellow, and green. Go by what the label is on where the wire is now versus where it's going to go on the new thermostat.

Now on the wall plate, what you want to do is you want to first put it in position and mark your holes. Got to make a hole for the anchor. You want to put one in each side and then just start the screws by hand. Wiring is pretty basic, I usually have four or five wires. After the wiring is done, you're going to install your face plate.

After the install, just set your comfort.

Programming on the thermostat is usually very intuitive. Most thermostats basically walk you through it, ask questions that they need to know as you go along the programming. It has four periods available. It has awake, leave, return, and sleep. So you can schedule each one of those time periods specifically for the temperature that you keep it in your house at that time.
